news & events

California events and festivals are back...for the time being. I'm hoping to continue showing my art and merchandise at more events in the near future, and set my sights for going full throttle, God willing, in 2022. OPERATION ART STRINGS / GUITARS FOR VETS

Operation Art Strings Artist

I was accepted to become a participating artist for the Operation Art Strings/Guitars for Vets program. They have sent me a guitar on which to place my artwork. They will then send it to a veteran suffering emotional distress. According to their research studies: 800,000 U.S. veterans struggle with physical injuries, PTSD and other emotional distress. The organization believes guitars can help the healing process. Music helps decrease anxiety, increase self-esteem, and reduce episodes of panic attacks, nightmares and flashbacks. Being a digital, my biggest challenge will be getting my artwork on the guitar, but I have print vendors in my arsenal that can print my artwork on many things. Or I may go analog on this one. Wish me luck! I will, of course, post the results of my artwork on the guitar when finished.

FALL FAMILY FUN FESTIVAL / SEPT 18, 2021

Jaklen Alkyan and The Sketchie Beast

The Fall Family Fun Festival in Northridge, California, hosted by the Public Art Initiative of The Museum of the San Fernando Valley was a small event but big on fun. I shared a booth with children's book author, Jaklen Alkyan, as illustrator of her books 'A Lovebird Named Lucy' and 'Audrey and Lucy's Backyard Adventure'. We were appreciative of the support shown by the Public Art Initiative and The Museum of The San Fernando Valley for showcasing local talent.

I was honored to be a chosen participant in The City of Stanton's first ever art exhibit, 'The World in Our Backyard', showcasing my piece, 'Deliverance'. The exhibit featured many beautiful works of art highlighting the diversity of the city of Stanton and Southern California. Many awards were given to young local artists for their contribution to the event, a very positive direction for art and culture in our Southland.

Over the past year, I've had several showings at the Artist in the Alley studio gallery during Pomona Artwalk. The Alley always draws a large crowd of art aficionados of all ages. Featuring live music and awesome artworks by emerging artists, Pomona Artwalk was recently voted the #1 walk in Southern California and I've enjoyed being a part of  Artist in the Alley's high energy scene for the many months I've showed artworks here.

SWAY FORTH @ MOM AND POP GALLERY / MAY 1, 2021

The Sketchie Beast Sway Forth

My 'Origarmy: West Above the Storm' was part of the Sway Forth group art exhibit at the Mom and Pop Gallery in charming Point Richmond, Northern California. I am also happy to announce that my Origarmy sold at this show, as did another piece I sent up to replace it. And that's what swaying forth is all about. 2020 was a tough year for all, but we move forward with positivity.
