Have to admit, as much as I love summer, I'm partial to the month of October.
Summer is the one season that makes me a bit sad when it ends, and I'm sure I'd be more depressed if October didn't follow closely on its heels. There's much to love about October. September may be the official start of the fall season, but October is the queen of Fall. It's my birth month and it's a well-known fact there's something very special about an October baby (OK, that's not a fact but it should be). It's the unofficial kick-off and countdown to all that's festive in the 4th quarter; Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas. Pumpkins sprout on porches all over town, and, as usual, I get down to create fall inspired art. Such as the above Best Friends.
When I shared this on social media, the comment I heard most was, "very cute!" Yikes. I created something cute! A little outside the bailiwick of Queen Doom and Gloom of the digital canvas. I guess I'm not above a gratuitous cute from time to time, just not as a regular menu option. And not as a 'serious' piece of art, just a quick sketch to celebrate the beginning of the month I love. However cute it may be, there are no cheerful primaries here...got my russets, blacks, acid yellows, barbed wire and a beloved crow. Check!
(By the way, my daughter said if I were made into a scarecrow, I would look just like the one in the image. Gosh.)

I've had a lot of fun creating seasonal inspired art over the years, for both Halloween and Valentine's Day. Much of it as giveaways to those who enjoy my art and have been loyal followers of my creative journey through the years. I'm ever appreciative of you.
Daydreamin' at the Laundromat Gets a Permanent Place
of Honor at Big Waves
A couple of months back I wrote about one of the public opportunities offered to local artists at Big Waves, a high traffic laundromat in the heart of Santa Monica. I've been showcasing art in their store for the last four years, and as I mentioned in the last article, it's never been a sales opportunity, but some opportunities surpass that.
Shortly after writing the article, I received an email from Big Waves. Because of the very positive feedback they've received from this piece, they asked if they could purchase it and hang it permanently. What an incredible honor.
The owner, a surfer, veteran, and super-friendly guy, told me when I dropped off the piece that it's the most commented on piece that has showed on their walls. I don't take any of this lightly. When advancements like this fall from above, I'm like a child in wide-eyed wonder. I must be completely transparent, I'm not unaware of the talent and have much confidence in it (for I know from whom it's been bestowed), but still, my excitement is brand new. Every time. And it's another fabulous first: the first piece of artwork showcased on their walls that they wanted to purchase for their own collection.
Upcoming...
Just a reminder...my 4th Solo Show 'Tales of Apocalypto' will open on Friday, October 1st in the Ranii Gallery at the Fullerton Museum Center. The show will open in conjunction with Fullerton's First Friday Art Walk from 6-9 pm. I hope to see you there!
Also...I will again be a featured artist at the Ontario Arts Festival on Saturday, October 19th from 9-5 pm outside the Ontario Museum of History and Art. Over 75 artists make up this festival and it's a great place to start your holiday shopping.
After that, I will take a much-deserved break.
Until next time!
For His Glory
