'FLORENCE' 2025

Florence.jpg

One of my newest is a representation of Florence Evelyn Nesbit. The most sought after artist's model of the Gilded Age. The world's first supermodel. The inspiration behind artist Charles Dana Gibson's 'Gibson Girl'. A fatal beauty embroiled in the Murder of the Century...the shooting of Stanford White by her husband Harry K. Thaw in 1906.

Thinking of visiting Southern California with its endless miles of beaches, sun and sand? With its millions of bodies bumping up against each other and its endless stream of traffic belching exhaust into the air? Best pack your gas mask or stay home. Even the Sea Lions know best.

'FLAMENKA' ©2018

Flamenka boasts an interesting juxtaposition of elements and textures. Some visitors at my art shows have asked: 'Is it painted on wood?' No, but what a grand illusion. I used several effects layers (including the wood grain), adjusting hue and color to achieve the tropically-flavored color palette, making Flamenka is a head-turner wherever she goes.

'THE LEGENDARY COOKE' 2022

This artistic tribute was inspired by listening to the song A Change is Gonna Come as sung by the legendary Sam Cooke. A  more perfect gospel blues song you will never find in this lifetime. While the original photo is in black and white, adding my signature layer and color effects lends it mood and flavor.

'QUEEN OF HER HEART'  ©2021

Part of my 'Matters of the Heart' triptych I created for a Valentine exhibition, Queen of Her Heart does not wait for red roses to be delivered...not when she can paint them herself. This queenly beauty uses numerous texture layers, a romantic red color palette and, of course, the exoticism that is much a part of my repertoire.

There goes that Sketchie Beast again! Pixel painting a dismal future. 'What is it based on?' people ask. On the behavior of people today. 'Nuff said.

Spark.jpg

'SPARK' ©2024

Spark is another of my Valentine-themed pieces. Although I'm not a romantic by nature, I enjoy making Valentine-themed art. Something about the season makes my heartstrings go zing-zing. This piece was inspired by a jazz album cover, where I find many of my inspirations.

'SIR PAUL'  2023

I'm a big fan of The Beatles music. I love the very familiar faces of the Fab Four, especially this face of a very young Paul McCartney.

This piece is decidedly personal. Arranged specifically for an artist's mindset challenge, I did some soul-searching to set the stage. There are many texture layers in this piece, especially for the dramatic, acid-streaked sky.

'PERCHANCE TO DREAM'  ©2022

Shakespeare said: 'To sleep, perchance to dream'. While my exotic sleeper is far off from the world of Shakespeare, the pure bliss of her restorative rest is what we should all aspire to. Each night. Every night. I wish you all a blissful slumber and may your dreams be delightful.
